Betty Jean Briggs, 87, of Napa, formerly of Danville, died peacefully at home July 16, 2013.

Born April 22, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Earl and Jean Melissa (Lalone) Ring. Betty grew up in Ypsilanti, Michigan and attended local schools where she was the lead in many high school musicals. She married her high school sweetheart, William "Bill" Briggs, on June 8, 1943, just before Bill began serving in the U.S. Navy.

After the war, the couple moved west to California. Moving first to the peninsula, the Briggs' lived in Mountain View where Betty was active in St. Timothy's Episcopal Church as a member of the Chancel Choir and served on the Altar Guild. The couple also lived in Danville for more than 27 years where they owned and operated Round Table Pizza restaurants in Danville and Dublin.

In 2001, Bill and Betty moved to Rio Vista where they lived in the Trilogy retirement community and Betty enjoyed being a member of their community choir. In 2009 Betty and Bill moved to Napa to be near their daughter and son-in-law.

Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Jack Ring; three sons, William Thomas, James Michael, and Robert Elroy Briggs: and grandson Joey Briggs. She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Bill Briggs; son Edward William (Dorothy) Briggs of San Jose; two daughters, Rebecca Ann (Lawrence) Drake of Napa, Deborah Lee McGonigle of San Antonio, Texas; and sister Grace Smith of Illinois. Also surviving are grandchildren: Edward Briggs and Dee Dee Briggs; Danielle (Reuben) Parrish and James (Katie) Nelson; Sarah McGonigle and Michael McGonigle; Rhiannon (Mike) Berglund; Rebecca Briggs and Jeffrey (Andra) Briggs; Step-grandchildren Paul (Laura) Drake, Robert (Jodie) Drake, and Susan (Tim) Roethgen; and 14 great grandchildren.

Our family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Andrea Clarke of Kaiser, the staff at Adult Day Services, Patty Banuelos, and Kaiser Hospice for their loving care and support shown towards our Mom. We appreciate you more than words can say.
