Napa native Chester Brandlin, passed away on February 10, 2013 at his home at the age of 89. He was born in Napa Valley on August 22, 1923 to Henry and Matilda Brandlin. He was drafted in the Army in 1945 and served honorably in the Field Artillery in Korea. He returned from overseas on the ship, General Freeman, and discharged in 1947. He spent his life on Dry Creek and Mt. Veeder helping on the family ranch where they grew grapes, prunes and walnuts. His favorite annual event was blending and bottling his own wines. He ventured in raising turkeys at one point in his life and helped his brother Richard with his cattle. When not working the land he was often walking the mountain from sunup to sundown. He was known to many and liked by all for his hospitality and good wine.
Chester is survived by his brother Richard; unofficial adopted son John Remmert (his little Johnny) and his wife Jeanne, their children John Jr. and Anthony (who often helped Chester on the ranch) and Kristina Hewlett and her husband Craig; Kathy Bchini her husband Sami, and her children Kenny Jr. and Keith Brown; and numerous nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sisters Velma and Ruth and his brother Harry; and his life-long companion, Nancy Remmert. Chester loved his animals and was deeply saddened by the recent passing of his faithful canine companion, Benji, of 16 years. We would like to thank Napa Valley Hospice for their excellent care and support during this very difficult time. Papa Chester we so love you and miss you terribly.
