Lola Marcucci Leonardo, born August 1, 1922 in Oakland, California to Umberto and Gina Marcucci, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Mimi Marcucci, her son, Emile Julius Leonardo, Jr. and her husband Emile Julius Leonardo, whom she married on June 1, 1947. They had been married over 56 years when he passed in 2005 at the age of 81.
Lola lived with her husband and two daughters, Mimi (Nelsen) and Gina (Leonardo) in Orinda, California. The family moved to Napa in 1969, a year after they purchased a Lincoln-Mercury dealership that was originally located on Main St. along the Napa River, now the home of Morimoto Napa. They built a new dealership on Soscol Avenue near Napa Bowl in the Early 70s, which is now the home of Kastner Honda.
Lola enjoyed a long and happy life with her family. Her favorite pastimes and hobbies were attending Oakland Athletics games, a longtime fan since the early 70s. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, traveling with family and shopping. To this day her two daughters both say they trained to shop under the master. She also enjoyed game shows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
She is survived by her two daughters, son-in-law Philip A. Nelsen, Granddaughters Lola Cornish, Lesley Leonardo, Alexandra Leonardo, grandson Philip E. Nelsen, great granddaughters Mimi Cornish, Kat Corazza, Gina Marie Leonardo, Isabella Leonardo, Lucca Leonardo, and great grandson Damon Nelsen. She will be greatly missed but we take solace in knowing that she is in heaven, once again dancing with her beloved husband, to “In The Mood” and "String of Pearls.”
Visitation will be Thursday, October 18th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, October 19th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in Lola’s name to Hospice of Napa or the Oakland A’s foundation.
In keeping with Lola’s exuberant personality and vibrant soul, we ask that black not be worn to her services. Just as in life, she’d much rather have color.
