Geraldine C. LaVoy

Geraldine Leona LaVoy 1925 - 2016 Geraldine Leona "Gerry" LaVoy, 90, of Napa, Calif., passed away in her home on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016. Born Dec.16, 1925, in Cone, Floydada County, Texas, Geraldine was the daughter of William Kelly Thetford and Olive Mallow Thetford. She was married June 4, 1944, to the late Wilfred Raymond "Bill" LaVoy. They were married for 58 years. Geraldine is survived by two sons, Jeffrey LaVoy (Cheryl) and Steven LaVoy (Ana), of Napa, Calif., and daughter, Gerry Lynne Tatum (Luther) of Anaheim, Calif. Also surviving is her brother, James Thetford, of Norwalk, Calif., five grandchildren, Tiffany Leader, Stacy Gerken, Alora LaVoy, Andrew LaVoy and James LaVoy, and three great grandchildren, Macy, Nathan and Bradley Gerken. Geraldine was a long time resident of Bellflower, Calif., where she worked as a business office supervisor for the General Telephone Company (Verizon) while raising her children. After leaving GTE, Geraldine moved to Napa, Calif., where she and Bill built their dream home and enjoyed retirement. Avid travelers, Geraldine and Bill ventured to faraway places in the U.S. and beyond, including Europe, the Mediterranean, Australia/New Zealand, Hawaii, Mexico and Canada. Within the U.S. one would find them traveling around in their motorhome, sometimes with their travel club, the North Bay Rovers. Geraldine and Bill enjoyed square dancing for many years, both in Bellflower and Napa. Their most recent club was the Napa Boots-n-Bells Square Dancers. All who knew Gerry admired her dearly for her drive, determination, caring for others and wonderful warm smile. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Napa Davita Dialysis Center for the wonderful care of their mother over the past few years, the Napa Fire Department and the emergency medical staff and doctors of both Queen of the Valley and Kaiser Hospitals. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Napa Valley Memorial Park, 2383 Napa-Vallejo Highway, Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at 11 a.m. Donations are appreciated in Geraldine's memory to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (alzfdn.org ) and to the Napa County Law Enforcement and Fire Service Chaplaincy Program (napachaps.com ).
