Joseph D. Blevins

Joseph (Joe) D. Blevins September 24, 1938 - December 28, 2022 Joe was born in Napa on September 24, 1938 at Parks Victory Hospital, Napa, CA to Kermit and Lois Blevins. He attended Napa schools including Napa High School graduating in 1956. As a young boy Joe always dreamed of being a pilot and joined the Air Force as soon as he was able. Due to vision issues he was unable to achieve that dream. But served proudly, from 1955-1959. Joe married Betty Ann Jones in 1959. After the Air Force he went to work at the Veterans Home in Yountville and then started a 30 year career at Mare Island Naval Shipyard retiring when it closed. He then worked for National Elevator Company and Cal/OSHA for 10 years. For more than 50 years Joe was an active member in the Napa Seventh Day Adventist Church and served as head Deacon for many years. After retiring Joe enjoyed traveling with Betty, gardening, he loved to read and was a life-long learner, as well as spending time with his family and friends. His most favorite thing of all was spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Kermit and Lois and his brothers Peter, Charlie and James Blevins, and his favorite nephew Scott. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Betty Ann, his children Dennis of Napa, Deborah Vargas of Napa, Danette Lacey of Vacaville, along with eight grandchildren (Jessica Cortez, Mark Cortez, James Lacey, Erik Salinger(Deva), Nicholas Lacey, Andrew Cortez, Alex Vargas(Courtney),Skyler Lacey) and five great-grandchildren (Isabella, Dakotah, Jasper Cortez, Wylee Salinger, Luke Vargas). He is also survived by his brothers John (Linda) of Nevada, George (Jan) of Napa, Sister in law Carol of Santa Rosa, CA and many nieces and nephews, and his best friend of more than 70 years David Pitta of Redding, CA. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to a charity that helps Veterans such as Wounded Warriors Project or to the Napa SDA Church. Please join us for a Memorial Service 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the Napa Community Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1105 G Street, Napa, CA 94558 Private Committal with military honors will be in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA.
