Laura Kathryn Gomez

Laura Kathryn (Goeschel) Gomez, 43, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento, California. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in August of this year. Laura was born Aug. 23, 1971, at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa. She graduated from local schools and received her bachelor's degree and master's degree in psychology from JFK University in Orinda, California. Laura had intended to continue her education working toward a Ph.D. in forensic psychology until her later role as wife and mother would become a higher priority for her. She worked for a few years as an emergency police dispatcher for the Napa County Dispatch Center. In March 1998, Laura married Victor Dennis Gomez from Lakewood, Colorado. They moved to their new home in Dixon in early 2001. In June 2001, Victor and Laura welcomed a son, Gabriel Victor Gomez. Laura was now quite happy being a "stay-at-home" wife and mother. She worked part-time from home doing corporate and educational transcription and assisted her mother in a professional office services business and event planning. Laura was a founding member and on the executive board of Team Dixon, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing opportunity and support to special needs children and their families in Dixon and the surrounding areas. She was also a member of Soroptimist International of Dixon, and had been elected to its board for 2015. Laura was very involved with Gabriel's education as well as providing gift bags for his classmates for each holiday. She was one of the biggest supporters of Team Dixon and an active participant with Gabriel in team activities. Laura did excellent cross stitch work and scrapbooking and loved to write. She was an avid lover of all animals and rescued many through the years. Laura is survived by her husband, Victor, and son, Gabriel of Dixon; mother, Keren Goeschel Patterson (Bob Patterson) of Napa; father, Vernon Goeschel (Terri Goeschel) of Mariposa, California; and Victor's Colorado family, including his parents, five siblings and their families. The memorial service for Laura will be held at Treadway & Wigger Funeral Home in Napa on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at 10 a.m. A reception at this location will be held immediately following the service with private burial in Lodi later that afternoon. Donations may be made in Laura's memory to her favorite organization, Team Dixon, 1285 Stratford Ave., Suite G, #124, Dixon, CA 95620. Laura will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
