Lupe Mendez

On Thursday, January 1, 2026, Lupe Mendez, loving wife, devoted mother, and cherished grandmother, peacefully passed away into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Lupe was born on September 9, 1933, in St. Helena, California, to Juan and Antonia Torres. She was one of seven siblings raised in the Napa Valley, where strong family bonds and joyful laughter shaped her early life. She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Encarnacion "Chon" Mendez; her children Rick (Anna), Ruben (Lori), Irene (Bobby), and son in law Frank Vasquez; Her precious grandchildren Elizabeth, Robert, Michael, Stephanie, Marissa, Domonique, Bianca, Serena, Raquel, Ruben Jr, Andrew, and she is also survived by her great-grandchildren Delores, Leila, Malia, Liam, Sebastian, Adaiah, Destiny and her great-great-grandchild, Angelo. Lupe was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Yolanda, who passed in 2022, and her oldest grandchild, Ricky, who passed in 1998. She is now joyfully reunited with them in heaven. Lupe is also survived by her loving siblings, Cora Aguayo, Jenny Hernandez, and John Torres. She was preceded in death by her sister Mary Bernal, and two sisters, both named Anita who passed many, many years ago as well as her parents, Juan & Antonia Torres. Lupe and Chon were married on July 27, 1958, in Rutherford, California, and made Rutherford their home throughout their 67 years of marriage. They were rarely seen apart, faithfully sharing life side by side, from grocery shopping at Safeway and Costco to errands at Home Depot. Lupe worked for many years as a production line worker at Beaulieu Vineyards in Rutherford. Outside of work, she found great joy in gardening, spending countless hours tending to her flowers and creating beauty with her hands. Known for her warm smile and infectious laughter, Lupe radiated the love of Christ wherever she went. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild. She was a devoted and nurturing mother, known for lovingly entering her children's bedrooms each night to bless them and pray they would "sleep with the little angels." Lupe was a faithful member of Foothill Christian Church in American Canyon. She will be remembered for her strong faith, her life of prayer, and the genuine love she showed to everyone she met. Her legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. The family will be forever grateful for the compassionate care and loving support provided by her Compassus nurse, Melissa, and the entire hospice team. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Treadway & Wigger Funeral Home in Napa, CA between the hours of 3pm - 8pm. Funeral Service will be on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Treadway & Wigger Funeral Home in Napa, CA at 11am. Burial will be at St.Helena Cemetery in St.Helena, CA.
