Alan Kahn Alan Eugene Kahn, a native of the Napa Valley, was born May 30, 1936 in San Francisco, California. He died on March 31, 2021 in Napa CA. Alan was educated in the Napa Public Schools, and earned a bachelor’s degree, majoring in Art, from Cal State Sacramento. While serving in the US Army, 1958-1960, he was stationed for a time in Greenland, an experience about which he enjoyed reminiscing. As a young man working as an artist in San Francisco, he drove a taxi cab, and often attended 49ers games in Kezar Stadium. He had resided at the California Veterans Home, Yountville, since 2003. Alan was an avid and accomplished tennis player. He enjoyed reading, creating art, especially stained glass panels, watching and discussing classic movies, and following sports, focusing on his beloved San Francisco Giants. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Elkus Kahn, a Boy Scout executive, his mother, Mildred Iva Washburn Kahn, a public health nurse, and his brother, Louis Elton Kahn, a career Foreign Service Officer. Survivors include his sister-in-law, Ruth Hoff Carlsen-Kahn, Rochester MN, niece Melissa Kahn Richey, Sewickley, PA, cousin Jonathon Elkus, Berkeley, and life long family friends Paul and Nancy Caffo and family, St. Helena, CA. Alan will be buried, next to his brother Louis, at the Fort Snelling (MN) National Cemetery, at a later date.
