Bethel Elizabeth Nieland, age 90, passed away in Cumming, GA on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. Born in Minden, LA on April 15, 1926, She was the daugther of the late Cramer Smith and Lena Smith Maska. Mrs. Nieland moved with her family from Louisiana to Denver, Colorado for some years where she attended Denver Junior Academy and later they moved on to Oakland California. Beth found her home, married and finally settled in Napa to raise her family. She was a member of The Napa Seventh Day Adventist Church for over 50 years. She was a 20 year retiree of St. Helena Hospital. Beth loved music and could play the piano as well as the harmonica. She was an accomplished cake decorator, an oil painter and enjoyed crafts. She loved to travel and had been many places around the world. She loved to take photographs. She had a love for animals. She is survived by her son Rabin Smith of Texas, daughter Starla McCollum and her husband, Donald of Georgia; grandchildren, Justin Smith, Matthew Smith, Melissa Smith, Josh McCollum, and Kayla McCollum; fourteen great-grandchildren also survive. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Bethel, was preceded in death by: her husband Edward Nieland and a son Robin Smith, two bother's, William Smith, and Clarence Smith, and two sister's, Ethel Wycoff and Bernice Covick. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Sunday, July 17 at Treadway & Wigger Funeral Chapel (now on the grounds of Napa Valley Memorial Park), 2383 Napa-Vallejo Hwy., with Pastor Marvin Wray officiating. Committal will follow in St. Helena Cemetery.
