    Marjorie Elizabeth Simich

    July 31, 1918 - March 4, 2013

Marjorie Elizabeth Simich passed away peacefully at her Napa home Monday March 4, 2013 with her family by her side. A native of the New Mexico community of Elida, she was born in 1918 to Theodore & Edith Wilmes. Reared on her parent's high desert cattle ranch, she and her four siblings faced the joys and challenges of a rural childhood during the Great Depression. She attended the one room Kentucky Valley schoolhouses near Elida and graduated from Elida High School in 1936. With few opportunities available to her in rural New Mexico, she moved to Oakland shortly after the beginning of World War II, in 1942 and was employed by Frieden's Calculating Company. It was in Oakland that she met her future husband, Myron Simich; the couple wed in 1944. In 1946 they moved to Napa where they purchased what is now, Napa Marble and Granite Works. Working beside her husband in virtually every aspect of the business, she simultaneously nurtured a growing family. She was a dedicated member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and as time permitted she enjoyed her membership in the Italian Catholic Federation, gardening, trips back home to New Mexico to visit family, sewing, cooking, solving crossword puzzles and watching "Jeopardy". One of her greatest joys was found in the simple act of babysitting her grandchildren. A woman of grace and resilience, she quietly persevered through times of adversity and embraced the simple pleasures in life. Survivors include her daughter Edith Scribner (Don), sons David and Stephen (Margaret), and grandchildren Audrey Elizabeth, Nicholas and Francine and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Myron, an infant daughter Yvonne, stepsons Edward and Vincent Simich, grandchildren Donnie and Suzanne Scribner, brothers Rex and Harold and her sisters Helen & Lillian. Friends are invited to attend her funeral on Sunday, March 10th at 3:00 P.M. at Treadway & Wigger Funeral Chapel. Burial will be private in the family plot in Holy Cross Cemetery in St. Helena. Contributions in her memory to the charity of the donor's choice have been suggested. Memories may be shared with the family online at Treadwaywigger.com.
