Sally Marie Bates Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Sally Marie Bates, longtime resident of Napa, passed away on February 28 at the age of 93 after living a full and happy life. She was blessed to have her children by her side. Sally was born on April 25, 1928 in Vallejo, California. Along with her little sister Jane, she was raised by her parents David and Helen Crank. She graduated from St Vincent’s Catholic School, class of 1946. She married Donald J. Bates in Reno, Nevada on May 13, 1950. They started a family in Vallejo and moved to Napa in 1963. Sally was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved baking cookies, sewing, and was a passionate gardener. She had an amazing wit and would always make us laugh. We called her funny comments granny-isms.“I had eggs for breakfast, they were mixed up and baked in cookies”. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Donald, her parents and sister Jane Caldwell of Missouri. She is survived by her three children. Steve Bates (Kathy) of Napa, David Bates (Linda) of Vacaville, Nancy Elwer (Ken) of Idaho, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A private family committal service will be Friday, March 25, 2022 at Napa Valley Memorial Park in Napa.
