Edna Rose Brauning

Edna Rose Brauning passed away at age 91 on May 1, 2014. Edna was the youngest of 7 siblings born to Joseph and Martha Hadfield of Neola, Iowa. Edna enjoyed sports playing volley ball and volley tennis. She enjoyed her family gatherings, her garden and loved to travel. She was an avid player of card games. She met Oliver Brauning in 1940 in Omaha, Nebraska where they married and gave birth to their first son, Leon. They were both reared on family farms in the mid west. Soon after their marriage they moved to Arizona during WWII where Richard was born, then moved to Southern California in the late 1940's. They resided in Hawthorne, CA for 30 years then moved to Lake Isabella, CA in 1976 when Oliver retired. Edna moved to Napa in 2008 to be near her family. Edna was preceded in death by Oliver and grandson Michael in the year 1994. She is survived by 14 direct descendants. They include her two sons, Leon and Richard; grandson Daniel and his wife Elizabeth (Songer) and 2 children; granddaughter Sharri and her husband Joe (Amaro) with two children; granddaughter Denise with two children and two grandchildren; and granddaughter Jennifer. Edna was graced by the inclusion in her life of daughter-in-law Judi Brauning along with Judi's son Michael Gaw and Judi's daughter Courtney and her husband Ryan Young with their three children, Edna's 3 wonderful step great grandchildren. She loved all of the spouses and extended families of her descendents. During the past year her health declined rapidly and she was fortunate to have so many family members in Napa to be with her. She enjoyed the visits of her extended family in her last few months. In her last few months, Edna resided in the Stayman Estates care home and was graced by the loving care of the staff. She was blessed to be attended by Napa Valley Hospice nurses, chaplain and social worker all of whom were caring for her in her final days. Following her wishes, no services will be held. Her remains will be interred in the Sutton County Cemetery, in Sutton, Nebraska next to those of her husband Oliver and her grandson Michael.
